THE ZURICH 'RING'
Der Ring des Nibelungen at Zurich Opera. Gianandrea Noseda conducts an Andreas Homoki production that includes Tomasz Konieczny, Camilla Nylund, Klaus Florian Vogt, Christof Fischesser, Christopher Purves, Eric Cutler. Plus Carmen (Viotti, Pirgu) and Britten's A Midummer Night's Dream. 5-star Hotel La Réserve Eden au Lac.
We are incredibly excited to be attending the artistic highlight of the 2023/24 opera season in Zurich, the new production (begun this year) of Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. Andreas Homoki and Gianandrea Noseda continue forging their Ring interpretation, and we will be there in superb seats for all of it. Brünnhilde and Siegfried will be sung by Camilla Nylund and Klaus Florian Vogt, who will make role debuts with these performances. We also include performances of Carmen and Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream between Ring evenings, world-class art tours, unfogettable cuisine and wine and one of the finest hotels we have encountered.
Unanimously recognized as a major international finance center, Zurich is also celebrated for its quality of life. It regularly tops the list of the world’s most pleasant cities. Safe, reliable, punctual, clean, organized and environmentally friendly, Zurich ticks all the boxes of a dynamic and welcoming modern city, yet reserves its more secret and surprising facets for curious visitors. The city’s rich cultural life proves that there is life after banking. The Dada movement was born in Zurich, and authors Hermann Hesse and Tristan Tzara lived here at the very beginning of the 20th century. We will spend our days exploring this cultural life in detail, with visits to the Landesmuseum of Swiss history, the Gestaltung Museum for Art & Design, the Fine Arts Museum, the Pavillon Le Corbusier.
Our evenings will be spent at the glorious Opernhaus Zürich, whose majestic facade and lush red interiors were inaugurated with Wagner’s Lohengrin in 1891. Set on the Sechselaütenplatz, the city’s largest square and the hub of the city center, and overlooks spectacular Lake Zurich.
Our hotel is the decadent La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich, a majestic building standing proud, serene, solid and calm like the wonderful days that have passed since it first opened on the lakeshore 100 years ago. It was recently refurbished by world-renowned French architect and industrial designer Philippe Starck. The exquisite hotel boasts two superb restaurants (one with a Michelin star) and two bars including a cigar lounge. Each of our tour members will have Lake View rooms.
