The view from my seat in the third row balcony. The set was very controversial. Two people (in different contexts) earlier that day had said they had seen this production and absolutely hated the set. I didn't hate it, but I didn't think it was breathtaking either. But it was certainly creative, and minamalist. Black blocks on a rise, the stage seemed to reflect the tumble of boulders found in the landscape around the area. Natalie Dessay wasn't at her best, if you aske me, but the cast was very strong, and the production quite compelling. If there's ever going to be a production of "La Traviata" I wouldn't mind seeing again, it was this one. Santa Fe Opera, Santa Fe, New Mexico. (Bonjwing, August 29, 2009)
