The Munich "Ring" 2012

July 8 - 16, 2012

Munich Opera Festival: 2nd cycle of Der Ring des Nibelungen, Rossini’s La Cenerentola plus Joyce DiDonato recital

The Munich Opera Festival is one of most important in the genre. Held every summer since 1876, it attracts an international audience of knowledgeable opera lovers who come to hear the prestigious Bavarian State Orchestra.

A complete cycle of Der Ring des Nibelungen performed in Wagner’s native Germany is always a memorable event, and the 2012 Munich Opera Festival will prove to be no exception. We will attend the second cycle, an Andreas Kriegenburg production with Kent Nagano conducting The Bavarian State Opera and Orchestra at the legendary Nationaltheatre. Featuring a cast that includes such Ring luminaries as Stephen Gould, Nina Stemme, Klaus Florian Vogt, Johan Reuter, Lance Ryan and Levente Molnár, we expect this tour to sell out so book your spots early.

We are also excited to present an additional operatic performance, Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella) featuring Joyce DiDonato in the title role (Allemandi; Esposito, Brownlee, Borchev, Corbelli) plus a recital the following evening at the stunning Prinzregententheater by DiDonato.

In addition to this stellar performance slate, we explore Munich and its abundant cultural riches with fascinating and well-paced tours. We will visit the Old and New Picture Galleries, with their vast collections, including fine works by Titian, Rubens, Goya, Monet and Van Gogh to name but a few. And as always, we will enjoy fine gastronomy at some of Munich’s most acclaimed restaurants.

We will be staying at the luxurious Bayerischer Hof, and our director for the tour will be Munich native/veteran tour guide and opera lover, Peter Neissendorfer.
